Celestial Tournament
My guild would like to enter, but we're finding a strict cap of 8 players very limiting.
Firstly, of course it's hard to be sure that same 8 people can play every scheduled match over the next couple of months
Secondly, with a roster of 11 who all swap in and out of GvGs, it's rather unfortunate having to exclude people.
From the point of view of making it a good competition, clearly allowing people to have a couple of subs for their matches rather than forcing them to forfeit/take henchies makes for better matches for all the guilds concerned.
I understand you don't want to increase the budget for this by providing more prizes...but you're already said you're giving away 8 and 8 only gfx cards/mice/etc per guild, so I guess you're covered there. I know we'd rather play with a team of 8 and 2 guildie subs and still only get 8 prizes than play with a team of 8 and two henchie subs!
I don't think there are any guilds who genuinely have a core gvg team of only 8 people, nor any who can guarantee those 8 will be available for every match in a potentially long competition.
So, could you up the number in the team that can play to more than 8 please? 10 would seem ideal, but perhaps for lower ranked guilds with less of a core team even 12 might be suitable. Either as 10/12 fully interchangeable players, or a core 8 and subs, whatever.

Having the 8-man rule for the Swiss rounds is pretty much the dumbest thing of 2007 to date.
Should be 10-man roster until the final 16 knockout, and then the 8 used in the first knockout round must be used for subsequent knockout rounds.

Just stipulate that only the 8 who play in the finals can win prizes.

Yeah, this is the main thing that bugged me. Even the playoffs had 10 players for participating. I like the suggestion of having 10 until the last 16.

Bitch thread? I'm asking, nicely, backed up by a cogent and coherently expressed set of reasons.

My guild really likes to play in this tournament but because of this strict rule we are unable too. We all got busy real lifes and therefor aren't able to play with the same 8 for 6 weeks in a row.

the rules have been changed to allow 10, still only 8 prizes, but you can have a couple alts for people who can't make it.

IMO the rule still needs modifications.

w/o adding a rule like
Quote:
Both team leaders must send mail to ANet about modified match date/time prior to the matches in case they're agreed upon changing match date/time.

, this rule could be exploitable/cause trouble.

well.. i saw the tournament rules and i have to say.. this is crazy. Do you thing this is a good idea? Absolutely no. Look at the first matches american guilds will play against europe guilds ?? I thing there is no chance to arrange a good time for all matches because of diferent timezone. Lot of my friends would like to play in this tournament.. but it is not possible because their opponents would like to play at 4AM. Do you really thing that peoples who are every day comming to work will be online in game at 4am?
This need an improvement... For example there is a good chance to arrange first groups separately.. then you will have let say 5 best guild of each region for final mathes.. and this final matches should be during the weekend as usually
